7/8 SOFTBALL RULES AND POLICIES
Allen Park &
Wyandotte
A. A. LEARNING AND HAVING FUN is
the main emphasis, therefore, no
score will be kept.
B. B. Games will be 1 ˝ hours long
regardless of the number of innings played. An inning will consist of four runs
or three outs whichever comes first.
C. C. Coach pitch distance will be
at least 30 feet. Base lines will be 55 feet.
D. D. The ball will be 10”
E. E. Teams will be organized
by each city’s League Coordinator. Players will be allowed to play on the same
team as their friends unless doing so will cause a disparity in team sizes
(this will be at the discretion of the Coordinator).
F. F. The uniform provided by
each city is to be worn during all games.
G. G. All players will be listed in
the batting order and will bat even if they are not in the game (round robin
batting). Defensive free substitution will apply. A player may not sit out more
than one inning at a time. There will be unlimited substitutions allowed. All
players must play on offense and defense during the game.
H. H. Ten of the players on a team
will play on defense.
I.
I.
There will not be a minimum number of players required to start or
finish a game.
J. J. Appropriate
protective equipment will be provided by each association and will be worn by
the players. Catchers must wear a chest protector, helmet and mask. A batting
helmet is required at bat, on deck and while running bases.
K.
K. Players will pitch
the first two innings. During this time, three strikes equal an out and four
balls equal a walk. The opposing manager will call balls and strikes from the
pitching circle. Pitching distance should be 30-32 feet. Due to game time limitations, the batting team coach may
choose to come in and pitch to the batter if the ball hasn't been put into play
after two consecutive
batters.
L. L. After the first two
innings, managers/coaches will pitch to their own teams. If the ball is not put
into play after eight pitches the batter is declared out. As the season
progresses, coaches may agree before the start of the game to allow the players
to attempt to pitch more than 2 innings (also addressed in rule N).
M. M. Managers should not use players
constantly at the same position. Players should learn to play all positions.
N. N. A brief stoppage of play for instruction is encouraged. Coaches should
have a meeting prior to each game start to discuss team progress and adjust as
the season progresses (i.e., stealing, extra bases, advance on pass ball,
innings to be pitched by the players, etc.) Learning and progression is the
main emphasis.
O. O. Rainouts/Inclement
Weather: When a game must be cancelled, the home manager will call the
traveling manager in adequate time to let him or her know of the cancellation.
Please give as much notice as possible, so managers are able to inform their
players and parents.
P. P. Make-Up Games:
All cancelled games should be made up. Managers shall call their individual
League Coordinator to arrange for a make up time, and then inform the opposing
manager.
